About SI for this Course
Welcome to EM378 SI!
Supplemental Instruction is now provided online via WebEx during the period of online classes. Join my SI sessions by using this link: https://iastate.webex.com/meet/jakobb
Thanks for your patience and participation during this transition!
Throughout the semester we will be hosting 3 sessions a week. The purpose of SI for this course will be focused around practice problems, giving you all experience with the concepts explored in lecture. Here is the schedule:
Monday 6:10 PM
Tuesday 6:10 PM
Thursday 5:10 PM
Monday sessions will be planned around Friday lecture content, Tuesday sessions around Monday lectures, and Thursday around Wednesday lectures. When there is no lecture Friday due to a lab, I'll focus more on review and the other 2 lectures of the previous week.
Students who attend SI earn on average almost a full letter grade higher than those who do not, so it's certainly worth trying out. Hope to see you at sessions this semester!
I figured out Webex media sharing and audio problems worked themselves out, so I have adjusted the plan going forward:
Webex meetings will happen at scheduled times
I will record Webex meetings
Recorded Webex meetings will be posted to YouTube
Webex meetings are meant to serve those of you who are available and want to ask questions while the youtube channel will allow everyone to review even if you couldn't make it at the scheduled time. Uploads to youtube may not be able to happen exactly after sessions, but I will do my best to get all sessions from a week up by Saturday of that week. Again, thanks to everyone who visited Webex and the channel already. Let me know what I can do to best help y'all with the class. See you Thursday for the next webex meeting!
Hey everyone, thanks to all who made it to the Webex meeting we had, I'm encouraged by how things are working so far. There's still a few hiccoughs to figure out, but we'll get there as we move forward. SI sessions will look as follows: videos posted to YouTube with Webex meetings to discuss content. For the YouTube channel, here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzVt8JAxD2lXURTcbKto9Xg If the link isn't getting you there, just search "Iowa State EM 378 SI" and that should do it. If it's helpful, subscribe, hit the notification bell, leave a comment. SI still needs attendance to gauge our usefulness, so if you are able to send me a message through the SI website that you watched the videos that'd be super. I'll also be taking attendance for those that join the Webex meetings Please share the YouTube channel with friends you have in the class; I'm hoping it will be a useful resource for everyone both now and during exam review. Good work on the recent exam, average was 80.5! Anywho, see
How's it going folks, hope you had a good break! We'll be having our SI sessions at our usual times but online now. Follow this link to get to meetings: https://iastate.box.com/s/ygrdrmf0syh3if5fhlojrqxfti9nfkj9 First one is tonight (Monday 2/23, 6:10 PM Iowa time) We'll be discussing the pi theorem from today's lecture notes and figuring out webex and the most helpful way to conduct SI going forward. Looking forward to seeing y'all there.
Good work today everyone who made it to Marston today for the review. If you weren't able to attend, the problems are on the website and you can find a friend who went if you want to be filled in on the solutions. Again, I'd encourage going to Dr. Schaefer's review session tomorrow. I won't be having a session Monday or Thursday because of the exam/lack of lectures, but I will see about getting my Tuesday session moved to 5-6 in Howe 1246 in order to fill in some questions right before the exam. I will have an answer tomorrow in lecture about Tuesday. Best of luck studying everyone! -Jakob
Exam 2 Review Session Problem [PDF] - Hey guys thanks again to all who were at the review session, hope it was helpful for you guys. Here's the problem and solution we didn't get too. If you want solutions for the other questions, find a friend who went and they can share.
Exam 1 Review Questions and Solutions [PDF] - All the questions and problems solved in the exam review held Tuesday 5-7 on 2/11
