About SI for this Course
In our sessions we will be doing worksheets and activities to help you prepare for your exams and better retain the material you learn in this course.
Please bring your notes and writing utensils to sessions. Please also bring your student ID card as this will make it much easier to take attendance. If possible, please also bring your computer, textbook, and calculator.
Some of my tips for success
1. Always attend class and take good notes, preferably handwritten, but taking them on the computer is ok if that works for you. If you can't attend a class get good notes from a friend or ask me for help.
2. Come to SI as much as you can. The more students attend SI, the higher their final grades tend to be. You can also use the resources I provide on my website including Sporcle quizzes and worksheets.
3. Do the study guide. Look up questions you don’t know in the book or powerpoints, or ask me, your TAs, or Ms. Martin for help.
4. For this unit specifically fill out the vitamins and minerals tables that I or Ms. Martin have provided for you. Flashcards also help for this unit because there is a little more memorization with vitamins and minerals. We will be making flashcards and filling out the vitamins and minerals tables in SI.
5. Review your notes, tables, flashcards, etc. before taking the exam.
6. If SI doesn’t work for you, utilize other resources from the Academic Success Center. The ASC offers academic coaching, study skills workshops, and tutoring. More information at this website https://www.asc.dso.iastate.edu/.
7. For assignment 3 you may want to go to the Writing and Media Center to help improve your writing. More information here https://www.wmc.dso.iastate.edu/
8.Take care of yourself and ask for help if you need it. For other personal issues you may have you can go to the Office of Student Assistance https://www.studentassistance.dso.iastate.edu/ or you can use Student Counselling Services http://www.counseling.iastate.edu/.
